Why I love Omegas

I don’t think anyone just slips on a puddle of slick and starts writing omegaverse. I think it is something you need to truly love in order to write, and I absolutely love it!

My favorite thing about Omegaverse is the Omegas. They are my favorite characters to write because they tend to be in a perpetual state of horniness, and it is glorious. Omegas are your more tender and needier members of the pack, and are usually the glue that holds everything together.

Meet my Omegas

Vera – Vera is the Omega that started it all and was Ashley’s and mine’s first brainchild. She is the type of Omega who really wishes it wasn’t her designation. The major theme around Vera and the Vegas V is found family and finding yourself. You will see throughout the duet how Vera comes to love herself and accept who she is while falling in love with Alpha’s she never dreamed would be hers.

Emily – I absolutely adore Emily at Heat Haven. She just went through a breakup and is at Heat Haven not really looking for a relationship, but boy does she find one in an elevator shaft. Emily embraces being an Omega, and I think she does a great job of showing the neediness of an Omega during her heat. I don’t think Heat Haven is the last you will see Emily and her guys….

Liv – I know you aren’t supposed to have favorite children, but Liv DeSoto has my entire heart in the palm of her hand. Out of all the characters I have written, Liv has been the most fun. She completely loves being an Omega and just wants a pack to call her own. She’s pretty much the quintessential Omega, but with the twist of being a little obsessive and determined in what she wants in her dream pack. Liv is willing to go to almost any length to get what she wants. Omega’s Obsession will be out on April 29th.

Omega Biology

What makes an Omega an Omega? Here are some of the typical attributes of a female Omega.

  • Smaller and feminine
  • Submissive (or submissive tendencies)
  • Driven by Alpha pheromones
  • Biologically, it is easier to bear children and is a heavy motivator to have a pack and bond with Alphas
  • Their scents are sweeter and more potent during their heat
  • Like cozy and safe places

While not all of these characteristics are one size fits all, they are common characteristics you can expect from Omegas. One of my favorite things to write about is an Omega in Heat. Before they go into heat, they tend to nest.

Nesting is when an Omega is preparing for her heat and wants everything to be perfect. This usually includes cleaning and making a safe space to get through her heat. Omegas usually like their nests to be dark with soft blankets and plenty of room for the type of activities that happen with multiple partners. Not having the right nest can cause anxiety for the Omega, and the worst thing that can happen to an Omega during their heat is to feel scared or anxious.

What is a heat you ask? Let Sarah Blue tell you. You can compare an Omega in heat to an average human ovulating. The Omega’s body is like, ‘hey we need knots and babies’ and our Omega goes through a series of physical responses to what their body is demanding.

During this time, their scent is far more potent in hopes of finding an Alpha to knot them. During their heat, they can expect to have fevers, a high sexual appetite, irritation, moments of not feeling lucid, and they are wetter than a bottom of a cruise ship. All of these things are what make Alphas want to care for them, knot them, and mark them as theirs.

In my Omegaverse books bonding has to be consensual. Meaning Omegas must be lucid and consent to the mark, or else it won’t take. The act of bonding or marking is when an Alpha bites their Omega which then connects them on a deeper level. They can sense each other’s emotions and it is a bond that surpasses human marriage. Omegas can bond with countless Alphas.

In most of my books, Omegas go into heat every few months, sometimes 2-3 times a year. It is typically something that takes a few days or up to a week to be complete. So you can imagine the amount of stamina and snacks needed to help an Omega during their time of need.

Being vulnerable is not a bad thing, neither is knowing what you want and going after it. That is why I love Omegas so much. They may seem the weakest and be the most vulnerable, but when they find the right pack, they are usually the person running the show.

Team Omega Forever.
